This work reflects on how Taiwan’s Indigenous histories were passed down through stories rather than writing. Most written records of the past come from colonial sources—European, Chinese, or Japanese. The piece includes three books made from fragments of text and images, suggesting the gaps in how history is remembered.
Viewers are invited to tear out a page using one of three knife sculptures shaped after the Qing dynasty’s “aboriginal boundary” (1750–1790). The knives leave a mark of this border on the paper, allowing each person to take away a small piece of history.
