At the Time When is a three-volume artist book dividing a day into three periods, tracing time from fluid natural markers—sun, shadows, combustion, to mechanical standardization that synchronized human rhythms and production. The work draws from two Black Forest archives, the German Clock Museum and Baden State Museum, where 17th-century clockmaking traditions persist amid thousands of timepieces frozen at disparate moments like 8:10 or 4:00. Captured during a June visit amid the year's longest days, these artifacts and images from varied pasts converge to probe humanity's temporal and eternal bonds with time.
