This artist's book juxtaposes photographs from visits to the three Palace Museums (Beijing, Taipei, Hong Kong) with National Palace Museum (Taipei) archival images to explore centralization and decentralization. Originating from the Forbidden City's imperial collection, these museums embody China's historical centralization in political structures and amassed material archives, where the palace served as the epicenter of power preserving artifacts, documents, and treasures. By probing the power-laden symbols of these artifacts, the work questions whether they perpetuate a haunting, centralized narrative of Chinese history that restricts cultural identity imagination. Through a dispersed compilation of intersecting, variously sized pages, it reimagines the traditional book format to deliver a non-linear, multifaceted narrative.
